Celebrating the Artistic Journey of Edna Pines: A Triumph at the San Diego Museum of Art

This week marked the end of an extraordinary exhibition at the San Diego Museum of Art, showcasing my work.. As a first-generation immigrant and a pioneering female artist in a historically male-dominated field, this exhibition has been a deeply fulfilling experience for me.

My art, characterized by the use of both palette knife and brush, spans the mediums of acrylics and oils. Each piece in my collection is a celebration of love, energy, and self-worth, capturing the essence of human emotion and experience. It has been incredibly rewarding to see visitors immerse themselves in these themes, resonating deeply with each stroke of my brush.

I am deeply honored that the San Diego Museum of Art chose to host my work, and I am grateful for the enthusiastic reception it received.

Guess how fast the painting sold... within the first few hours! Here is an incredible story about the collector who purchased it.

Accidentally stumbling upon my piece at the juried art show, he found himself captivated by its vibrancy, unknowingly purchasing a piece crafted by my hands on the first day the show had opened! This made my piece one of the first sold.

As fate would have it, he later discovered the familiar name behind the artwork, igniting a deeper connection. Delighted by the serendipitous revelation, he ventured further into my repertoire, finding more pieces that complemented his collection perfectly.

What began as a chance acquisition evolved into a curated ensemble, with each piece adding its own hue to the tapestry of his art-filled home. This collector has dabbled in my mixed media, palette knife artwork, and bird collections. I am grateful for those who are passionate about my world and enjoy bringing this fun-loving color into their spaces.

A heartwarming memory created!

During the La Jolla Art Walk, after seeing all my works in the gallery, a new collector bought a mixed media painting first. She came back later as she couldn’t stop thinking of the ocean series paintings and wanted to take that memory of visiting La Jolla with her.  So she commissioned me for an ocean scene she saw in one of my paintings and wanted me to add her playing with her dog on the beach with her favorite green color ball. 

What made it so special? Well, a custom commission isn't just about getting a painting; it's about telling your story. Whether it's a favorite memory, a beloved pet, a child, or a milestone you want to commemorate, a custom piece of art brings your vision to life in a way that's uniquely you.

Finding Inspiration in La Jolla's Beauty and Family Memories

I'm thrilled to share with you the inspirations behind my contemporary art pieces, so many of which find their roots in the breathtaking beauty of La Jolla, California.

Living in such a picturesque town, surrounded by the majestic ocean views and vibrant coastal life, I can't help but feel a profound connection to my surroundings. Each stroke of my palette knife carries with it the essence of La Jolla's beauty, infusing my artwork with a sense of wonder and tranquility. I have not only lived in La Jolla, but I have raised my girls here and spent quality time with my husband. I also became a business owner in La Jolla so this town is close to my heart.

One of the aspects of my creative process that I cherish the most is the use of my palette knife.

Its unique texture and consistency allows me to express myself in ways that traditional brushes simply cannot.

As I glide the knife across the canvas, it evokes memories of a simpler time – mornings spent buttering toast for my two beloved daughters.

Those moments of simple joy, shared with my daughters, remind me of the importance of family and connection. Growing up, I always longed for a sister, and now, seeing the bond between my daughters, I feel a sense of gratitude wash over me. It's these emotions, these memories, that fuel my creativity and infuse each piece with depth and meaning.

Having an art gallery here in La Jolla has been a dream come true.
